BACKCOUNTRY BASECAMP+ ALTA Immersive Skin & Stay

Backcountry Basecamp +

Join Backcountry Magazine staff and editors for a three-day immersive course designed for people who want to learn the basics of backcountry skiing and discover new lines in the Wasatch. Develop your knowledge, skills and experience in “the greatest snow on earth,” led by the experienced professional guides of The Backcountry Pros while you demo the latest Scott ski gear.

Each day will begin with instruction, skill development and route orientation, followed by a guided backcountry tour in the Wasatch. The day ends with a reflection of lessons learned and planning for the next day, followed by a hearty dinner and an evening relaxing and socializing with like-minded adventurers. The package includes three nights at the legendary Goldminer’s Daughter in Alta, all meals and the chance to try out the latest available backcountry gear.

More about Basecamp: This trip opportunity is in conjunction with Backcountry’s 2020 Basecamp tour. Now celebrating its 25th birthday, Backcountry Magazine is committed to educating its community on how to safely travel through untracked terrain. And for seven years they’ve been taking the message from the pages to the people. Starting in January, they’re teaming up with Scott Sports and Nokian Tyres to bring that knowledge to resorts in California, Washington, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado and Vermont for the sixth-annual Backcountry BASECAMP Tour.

As they travel throughout the country spreading safety and stoke, join the editors of Backcountry Magazine, alongside guides, forecasters, AIARE instructors and gear experts for a resort-based showcase of all things backcountry—including demos, avalanche education, guided tours and a huge raffle.

This winter is all about getting farther out and back safely.

Join our fourth BASECAMP stop at Alta, Utah on February 22 and 23, 2019 for two days of demos from tour sponsors and backcountry safety workshops. On Saturday at 4 p.m. stop by the BASECAMP trailer in front of the Goldminer’s Daughter Lodge for a huge raffle and après party. One-hundred percent of the raffle proceeds will benefit Wasatch Backcountry Rescue.

Basecamp Plus guests will learn how to:

  • Prepare for backcountry adventures

  • Plan a touring day and find the best snow

  • Identify backcountry hazards and evaluate risks

  • Interpret avalanche forecasts and use avalanche safety equipment

  • Choose the ideal gear for your personal needs

  • Skin confidently in moderate terrain

  • Develop the confidence to create your own backcountry adventures

  • Try new gear from the Backcountry Basecamp demo trailer
