We offer a multitude of private and group rock clinics in the Wasatch for individuals who want to take their skills to the next level. If you are uncertain of where to go next we are happy to help guide you on the right path. The following private clinics can be taken as a progression of classes or on an individual basis. Private Clinics

 

Introductory Clinic

Learn the ropes- literally! This basic rock climbing instructional clinic covers all the skills necessary to give you a safe start into the sport. Climbing movement technique, belaying, rappelling, and safety are all covered topics. This Utah based adventure is a kid friendly course (age 8+), so round-em up! No experience is necessary, just moderate fitness and a good attitude.

Learn to Lead Clinic

Most climbers will get to a point where they want the ability to move on from top roping and start leading pitches. This instructional climbing clinic is designed to give you the foundational skills to help keep you and your partners safe while leading and cleaning sport climbs. Students should be confident with basic climbing techniques as a pre-requisite.

Transition to Climbing Outside

Gym climbers have a great base of basic skills from climbing inside but they need to learn specific techniques and systems to safely climb outside on their own. This instructional climbing clinic focuses on just that; the skills necessary to lead and clean sport climbs and how to set up top ropes on your own. Students should be confident with basic climbing techniques as a pre-requisite.

Trad Intro / Ground School

Let us help you navigate an often daunting beginning to trad climbing. Under expert guidance learn how to evaluate and choose routes, how to place effective gear, what makes acceptable anchors and what gear is best for particular situations. Participants are required to be proficient with climbing basics such as belaying, rappelling and tying-in as a prerequisite.

Traditional Multi-Pitch Clinic

Learn to climb several pitches off the ground on an all-day adventure. This is rock climbing in its purest form and we will cover the techniques to set you up for success!

Topics Include:

-Anchor building

-Rope management

-Belaying and lowering from above

-Multi stage rappel

-Leading considerations

-Traditional lead climbing

-Gear placement and cleaning review

Climbers should be confident with basic climbing techniques as a pre-requisite. It is also recommended to be comfortable leading easy sport climbs.

Group Clinics - Outdoor Ascent Series

Outdoor Top-Roping

You don’t have to be a lead climber to learn how to climb outside. This class will take your indoor top-roping skills and help you transfer them to the exciting, new adventure of building and climbing on your own top-rope anchors outside!


This course is offered in partnership with The Front Climbing Club and is a three-day series.

-The differences between gym and outdoor climbing
-Risk assessment
-Site Selection
-Leave No Trace for climbers
-Equipment selection and use
-Edge security
-Anchor construction

Outdoor Sport Climbing


Are you lead climb and belay certified inside and ready to venture out? If so, this is the course for you! We will teach you how to apply your clipping and rope management skills to real rock, as well as how to clean a sport climb after you lead it. 
 


This course is offered in partnership with The Front Climbing Club and is a three-day series.

 

Topics Include:

-Review lead climbing and belaying best practices
-The differences between gym and outdoor climbing
-Ways to mitigate risk and avoid hazardous situations
-Site Selection
-Leave No Trace for climbers
-Equipment selection and use
-Building a quick-draw anchor
-Cleaning a sport route via lowering and rappelling

Intro to Trad

“Trad”, or traditional, climbing means placing protection on lead and building anchors with removable, re-usable equipment that fits into cracks in the rock. While most trad-climbers no longer trust their lives to a machine nut with some string tied through it, learning how to place modern equipment securely takes practice and a creative mind. Get started with each in this exciting new course! 


This course is offered in partnership with The Front Climbing Club and is a two-day series.

 

Topics Include:

-Site selection
-Assessing rock quality
-Passive protection
-Active protection
-Placement strategy
-Building pre-equalized anchors
-Sling use and racking
-Leave No Trace for climbers
